Kids cooking up chili at Stampede

Chili Cookoff 2011.Jpg

The Stampede rodeo isn't the only major competition at the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.

On Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. the finals for the Kid's Chili Cook Off get underway at the Calgary Co-op Kitchen Theatre. The event is co-hosted by Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary (BGCC) and ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen.

Chefs from the ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen provide supervision, but the contestants, children from Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary, ages 9 -12, do the work!

Each team of three makes either a beef, chicken or vegetarian chili from an ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen Cookbook, with the allowance of at least one secret ingredient. When all dishes are ready, each team presents their chili to the judges, who are representatives of the Calgary Fire Department, Calgary Stampede Kitchen Theatre and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary. Each chili is judged on taste, presentation and use of secret ingredient.

Special Thanks to the Calgary Stampede, ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen and Calgary Fire Department!

Good luck to all the BGCC contestants! Stay tuned to find out who wins.
