Gala raises over $2.4 million for Calgary’s vulnerable youth since its inception 10 years ago.

On, Nov. 8, 2014 more than 275 guests came together in The Glencoe Club Ballroom for our 10th annual Splash of Red Gala in support of Calgary’s vulnerable youth. Guests were dressed to the nines in their best black and white attire with a splash of red, including everything from red socks, ties, scarves, jackets, shoes and jewellery!

This gala marked the fifth year that Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary has partnered with The Glencoe Club for a spectacular evening featuring a delicious dinner, including wine sponsored by Tinhorn Creek Vineyards.

Jo, a graduate of BGCC’s HERA program for adolescent girls at risk of sexual exploitation, addressed the over 275 guests at the gala. “Without the programs offered to people like me, lives would go unchanged. Caring for people is what changes the world,” she shared. “I will never forget my time there because it was a lifeline when I was drowning in darkness,” Jo said of her experience with HERA, which eventually led her to become involved in Haven’s Way, one of BGCC’s youth housing programs for young women.

Jo spoke about how her involvement in these programs taught her to laugh, love and trust. “Every memory I have will be cherished and never forgotten. It brings joy into my heart, harmony into my life, and peace of mind just knowing that there are people willing to go the distance for kids in need.” Jo’s impactful words touched the hearts of many, and earned her a standing ovation from the hundreds of guests in attendance at The Glencoe Club.

Auction items included everything from an excursion to see polar bears up close and personal in Churchill, Manitoba, to a ride-along with the Calgary Police Service! Other highlights of the evening included a WestJet Vacations raffle, a costume photo booth, and dancing to music performed by the Dino Martinis.

As a result of the overwhelming generosity of our sponsors and guests, over $482,000 was raised in support of Calgary’s vulnerable children and youth, bringing the event’s ten-year total to over $2.4 million!

Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all volunteers, attendees, donors and sponsors who made the evening such a success! Thank you for being a SPLASH of hope to our children and youth!
