A new project called Circle of Supports hopes to change that. Circle Of Supports Vert Sm

The project, which is an initiative of the United Way of Calgary and Area, aims to strengthen school engagement of Aboriginal youth – including First Nations, Métis, Inuit and those who self-identify as Aboriginal – by wrapping supports around them with the overall goal of increasing graduation rates.

If you missed the recent "Ode to a Penny" event hosted by ING Direct at their downtown Calgary cafe, you can still get involved in the cause.

ING Direct decided to hold an event to say goodbye to the Canadian penny. In the process, they wanted to raise money for a worthy cause and chose Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary (BGCC) as the recipient!

A Calgary national boxing champion might have hung up her gloves but she hasn’t hung up her passion.

Erin Woodrow, 29, always knew that as soon as she had enough time in her schedule she wanted to teach young women and girls the art of boxing. Last year, when Erin retired from the boxing ring she started up a program to do just that.

Volunteers are invaluable

Our volunteers make a huge difference in the lives of our kids and their families. Last year, more than 1,400 volunteers donated more than 21,000 hours of their time.

A portion of those numbers came from volunteers of our Home-Start Program. Earlier this week, the Home-Start volunteers were treated to a lunch, guest speaker and door prizes at an appreciation luncheon.

SASS grads celebrate


For the fifth time since its inception, the Stoked About Staying in School (SASS) program graduated its students.

SASS is funded through Service Canada and serves youth aged 15 - 18 years who are not currently attending school but who have a desire to return. Through involvement in the program participants are supported to re-enroll for the next semester at school.
